THE WAYS TO CARRY OUT THE MISSION

ACCORDING TO FRANCIS

The mission did not consist only or mainly of preaching a doctrine for Francis, but in participating actively in the constant movement of that Love which became incarnate in order to liberate mankind.  We discover three essential moments in this movement:  thirty years of silent presence, the mystery of Nazareth; three years of public manifestation through signs and words along the roads of Palestine; and three days of consummation by handing Himself over to death in Jerusalem.

For Francis, these three moments which were inseparable in the mission of the Son are also inseparable in the mission of every missionary.  The proclamation of the Gospel, the mission, is a prolongation of the mystery of the incarnation of the Son.  If the entire life of Jesus was a good news manifested through acts, rather than through preaching, the entire life of the Friar Minor has to be, for Francis, lived like and on the basis of the mission, Jesus.  He therefore envisaged the mission of his Friars as having the same modalities as that of the mission of the Son.  For Francis, the missionary must re-live the missionary existence of Jesus.

From the letter of the world leader of the Franciscans to his brothers, “Do Whatever He Tells You”

JUNE HEALTH

Children love to play outside, especially when the weather is warm.  Parents, however, should know that active children do not adjust to hot temperatures (greater than 95deg) as well as adults.  They produce more heat during physical activity and they sweat less, which reduces their ability to get rid of body heat and could lead to dehydration.

Here are some simple tips to help your child stay safely hydrated while playing outdoors in the heat.

7 Tips to Prevent Dehydration in Children

1.     Know the physical condition of the child

If the child is not used to exercise, start slow.

2.     Acclimate them to the heat.

Slowly increase amount of time playing in the heat.

3.     Give them water or sports drinks.

4.     Know the weather conditions and play accordingly.

Avoid practice sessions during the hottest times of the day.

5.     Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

6.     Watch them closely.

7.     Have an emergency plan.
